Beginning on November 26th, we will be using literature circles during our guided reading time.  Each student will have a role to complete each night along with reading the assigned chapter.  They are responsible for being prepared to discuss and share their role with the group the next day.  Below is a list of roles and general guidelines for how to complete the sheets.

Discussion Director– this role entails reading the chapter and creating 3-5 questions to help guide the groups discussion the next day.

Summarizer- this role involves reading the chapter, writing a one paragraph summary discussing who, what , when, where, why, and how things occurred.  They also are to jot down 2-4 key events in the chapter and make a connection (text to self, text to world, text to text).

Illustrator– this person reads the chapter and creates an illustration that would represent what happened in the reading.  They also are to jot down 2-4 key events in the chapter and make a connection (text to self, text to world, text to text).

Wordsmith– this person reads the chapter and identifies new or interesting words.  They keep track of the words on their role sheet along with the word’s definition and where it is located in the text.

Casting Director– this person is responsible for keeping track of who’s who in the reading.  They are to list characters, describe what they might look like and how they act and interact with each other.
